What do you get when you combine a New York City atmosphere, top bands and DJs, European décor, and intelligent lighting and sound…all on Staten Island? An ultra lounge, better known as Locale. Manhattan promoters and club owners have been encouraging Staten Islanders to fill their nightspots for years, and Locale owner Jose Caraballo Jr. wanted to create a venue that would give islanders a place to party in their hometown. His motto is “Why pay the cost to go to the city, when you have the NYC vibe just minutes away.” After working as a DJ for many years, Caraballo decided it was time to open up his own place to his own liking; he also wanted to give back to all the local supporters who had followed him throughout his career as a DJ. After doing intense demographic research throughout the area for two years, he was able to learn exactly what type of place would best suit Staten Islanders, and, along with his two partners Gene Sarabella and Jose Caraballo Sr., worked toward the birth of this ultra lounge on March 22. The atmosphere is that of a Manhattan venue: innovative design, LED lighting, and a 20,000-watt sound system. Its house music night “kicks butt,” according to Jose Jr., as Locale was strategically built to allow house music to sound its best. That said, the club primarily plays Top 40, in addition to having bands perform on a weekly basis. Another design strength is the club’s layout versatility, which allows for hosting a variety of events; the stage is perfect for performances and fashion shows, food can be served to private parties, and bottle service is available in the VIP sections. Jose Jr.’s goal is to “...bring Staten Island back from a dead nightlife scene,” and Locale is poised to do just that, with its minimalist design and atmosphere, state of the art technology, and owners who seem to truly care about their consumers’ opinions. Jose Jr. is quick to add that he “...values everyone who supports us and who is making Locale a part of their life.” It’s likely that Staten Islanders will return the love.
