The "O" has arrived on Staten Island. And for once, we're not talking about Obama...or even Oprah. In this case, "O" refers to the new Oakley O Store opening its doors at the Staten Island Mall.

Just in time for summer, Islanders will be able to pick up a new pair of shades to ward off the sun's rays. But
customers will quickly realize that Oakley offers much more than just sunglasses. "While we are mostly
recognized for our superior eyewear, we think consumers will be delighted to discover all our product offerings, which include apparel, accessories, footwear, backpacks, luggage and watches," says Sophie Bundalo, Oakley's
head of retail.

The store boasts a new layout and offers customers the opportunity to design their own pair of glasses on an interactive eyewear display. In addition to customized eyewear and new releases, the store has polarized and sport performance models. Oakley also offers a bevy of ophthalmic-specific frames and corrective sun lenses, not to mention an entire line of sports goggles.

While many companies view the flagging economy as a time to scale back, Oakley has gone in the other direction with its O Stores, expanding its presence in the Northeast and investing in its wares. "We offer products in various pricing tiers that will accommodate most budgets (during this economy )," Bundalo said.

The eyewear and apparel giant cited the Staten Island Mall's recent expansion and overall performance in attracting customers as reasons for launching the new store there. The southern California-based company understands that Staten Island residents are passionate about their sports and stocked the Oakley O Store with products for outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking, surfing and sailing.
