New York's native sons have made quite a name for themselves. Screaming Broccolli has built a loyal and steady following ever since the band was created in the mid 90s.
Led by original band member and lead vocalist Michael Loughlin, this multi-talented foursome emits an energy on stage that is unmatched. Mike is joined by Stuart Berenson on guitar, Jamie Meselsohn on bass and DJ Johnston on the drums. They are famous for putting their own flavor on an extensive song list. They say that makes them one of the best cover bands on the circuit today.
Don't expect a rag tag garage band at any of their gigs. These guys have toured the world and have signed three major recording contracts between them. SB uses its versatility and musical excellence to get you rockin'.
They took a breath from their late night jam sessions to give us a window into "The Broc."
Industry: Where are you from?
SB: Staten Island and Brooklyn.
Industry: How and when did the band form?
SB: We formed as friends back in 1994 and I [lead singer, Mike Loughlin] am the only original member left, because I took it more seriously than everyone else.
Industry: Where did the band name come from?
SB: It used to be Screaming Broccolli and the Mudworms, that a friend of Mike's made up years ago, and when the original members left, we cut it to just Screaming Broccolli.
Industry: How has the band changed?
SB: We evolved, just as the music evolved. We are able to change with the times. Whenever a different sound comes out, we are able to cover it. That's why we are the best cover band on the circuit, and if any other band has a problem with that they can try to battle us...but they will lose.
Industry: Where is your favorite place to perform?
SB: Jenkinson's Club, Point Pleasant [New Jersey]
Industry: What kind of music do you play?
SB: Everything and anything that the people like.
Industry: What is your favorite song to perform?
SB: "Mr. Brightside" from The Killers
Industry: Do you do cover songs, originals...both?
SB: Just covers.
Industry: Who inspired you growing up?
SB: Billy Joel
Industry: Is it easier to date girls when you are in a band?
SB: An emphatic yes [laughs].
Industry: What can fans expect from your show?
SB: A great, memorable time!
Industry: What was your most bizarre event?
SB: We did a private wedding at a house and Kid Rock's mom was a guest and we got her drunk. She really loved us and she was a nice woman.
Industry: And your worst show?
SB: There are a lot of them; we can't count.
